About

MSU Landscape Services maintains over 1800 acres of land that comprises the MSU campus. Our campus is not only a spectacular view for the Spartan community, but it’s also an urban arboretum that includes over 20,000 trees with over 900 species represented. Some of these trees were present when the university was founded in 1855!

Trees

A commemorative tree creates a lasting legacy that will become a living part of Michigan State University for decades to come.

The vast number of trees and their diversity create a unique “living laboratory” that has been used for teaching and research by countless generations of Spartans. Our team meticulously maintains our arboretum with a focus on sustainability, helping the environment by sequestering carbon, reducing runoff, and moderating temperatures. Our work is guided by our comprehensive tree plan and tree replacement policy .

Bricks & Benches

Spartans can enjoy our grounds from any angle with over 100 miles of sidewalks and 19 miles of bike paths. Commemorative bricks and benches become a lasting part of this environment that Spartans call home.

There are 13 acres of planting beds alone on MSU’s campus: commemorative benches provide a place for Spartans to rest and enjoy the natural beauty of campus.
